Welcome to the website of the Torii Dojo, a member of the All Okinawa Seidokan Karate Kobudo Association. The dojo was established in 1970 by Ed Duga, Shihan Sensei and continues to teach Okinawan martial arts in western Pennsylvania in the same traditional manner today.
The Torii Dojo offers well-rounded martial arts training that focuses on:
- karate - empty hand technqiues
- kobudo - "old way" weapons
- toide - joint locking and throwing techniques
Specializing in self defense training, the Torii Dojo offers students in the Derry and Blairsville areas of Westmoreland and Indiana County, PA a unique experience to practice karate with instructors who have studied in Okinawa and class time emphasizing discipline, focus and refinement of character.
The traditional Okinawan martial arts training provided by the Torii Dojo Includes:
- junbi undo - warm ups
- hojo undo - body conditioning
- kihon waza - basic techniques
- kata - forms
- bunkai and techiki - interpretation and application of kata
- jiyu kumite - free sparring
- ippon kumite - one attack and counter techniques
- yakusoku kumite - multiple step techniques
